The Old Pueblo ranks 2nd nationally when it comes to how affordable it is for single buyers to purchase a one-bedroom home.
That's the takeaway from sleep and wellness publication, everynight, which ranked Tucson behind Jacksonville, Fla., nationally.
According to everynight's study, Tucson's average cost for such a home is $146,695, which is just over $1,000 more than Jacksonville.
The study also found that Tucsonans only needed to make a yearly salary of $29,339 to afford such a home, which is well below the city's average salary of $44,860.
They also found that someone making the city's average yearly salary could afford a home with a value of $204,231, roughly five times more than their yearly income.
The share of prospective home buyers in the U.S. who are single rose to an all-time record of 38 percent in 2018, according to the housing data firm,Haus.
Conversely, housing prices have spiked nationally over the same time period, growing at roughly double the averageworker's salary.
"It's been really interesting to study the most affordable 1-bed city homes for single buyers against a backdrop of rising house prices across the U.S, making buying a home in the city difficult or even impossible for many workers," everynight editor Jasmin Lee said.
"Unfortunately, some of the cities with more diverse job opportunities require six-figure salaries if you want to get on the property ladder there. Ultimately, there may be some cities that see a talent drain, affecting businesses across all sectors, as young professionals decide to relocate to more affordable areas."
